Collect Wearable Data for Your Research Study
Wearable data download, made easy
Collect wearable data from participants’ own devices or supported research-grade sensors. Choose the metrics your study needs, connect participant data in Pathverse, and download it alongside surveys and study activity for analysis.

What Is Wearable Data Collection for Research?
Wearable devices measure aspects of daily activity and health, such as steps, heart rate, and sleep. Researchers can use these data to study patterns over time and explore how device measurements relate to participants’ reported experiences. Available metrics and sampling intervals vary by device and integration.
Why Collect Wearable Data with Pathverse?
Collect wearable data without coding or managing API updates and we handle the integrations for you. Access minute-level and hourly data, track patterns across weeks and months, and retrieve historical data going back months, depending on the device and available records. Combine wearable data with EMA surveys or use it to inform JITAI triggers, with straightforward downloads for analysis.
Collect Data from Participant-Owned Wearables or Research Sensors
1. Bring your own watch
Consumer Grade Devices
Garmin, Apple Watch, Google watches, and more. Participants connect the account they already use, with no extra hardware to ship.
2. Research-grade devices
SENS motion sensor
A small, discreet accelerometer worn on the body. Data transfers through the SENS motion app and is linked to each participant in Pathverse.
Consumer Devices
Connect Consumer Wearables
Pathverse connects to major consumer wearable platforms. You choose which devices your study accepts, and participants see only those options.
Downloadable data include:
-
Steps
-
Exercise minutes
-
Sleep
-
Heart rate, and more
Download Intervals ranging from one-minute epochs to hourly and daily summaries, depending on the device and data type.

Participants can connect to their device and researchers can sync their data.

Collect Activity Data with SENS Motion Sensors
SENS motion is a discreet wearable activity sensor for healthcare and research. Pathverse links each sensor to a participant, so sensor data sits alongside their surveys and app activity.
Downloadable data include:
-
Physical activity
-
Sleep
Download Intervals ranging from one-minute epochs to hourly and daily summaries, depending on the device and data type.

Choose the Wearable Metrics Your Study Needs
Each metric has its own Enable switch. Turn on step count, heart rate or sleep, and participants are asked to sync it from Apple Watch, Polar, Garmin, Google Fit or Fitbit.
Switch on Download data to include a metric in your export. Export available sample-level heart rate and sleep records, rather than daily summaries only. Availability and sampling intervals depend on the device and integration.
